It comes as no surprise that those contending with domestic violence and/or family law issues often find themselves struggling with landlord-tenant matters, as well. This can manifest in an individual’s inability to pay rent because they’ve missed work to deal with their family law matter. Or, perhaps they are facing eviction because the police have been called to their home due to domestic violence one too many times for their landlord’s liking. Northwest Advocacy Foundation recognizes that legal issues often occur simultaneously, and assists and represents clients with:
- Fair Housing Act issues (discriminatory rental practices);
- Warranty of Habitability issues (landlord’s responsibility to maintain the premises in habitable conditions);
- Covenant of Quiet Enjoyment issues (tenant’s right to peacefully use and enjoy the premises);
- Code violations;
- Eviction; and
- Constructive eviction.
